EXTRA LIFE
One Up for the Kids!
Extra Life is a diverse community of gamers who combine their love of gaming with a passion for giving back to their local CMN Hospital! Gamers ask their friends and families to sponsor them for a marathon gaming session -- including video, board, tabletop, and roleplaying games -- in support of Duke Children’s.
Extra Life has raised $957,844 for Duke Children’s since 2010.
Extra Life has an annual National Game Day in early November, but Extra Life participants are gaming for good all year organizing their own game days or play anytime throughout the year.
Extra Life became a part of Duke Children’s in 2010; in 2014, our region was chosen by CMN Hospitals to form an Extra Life Guild. The local guild works with area comic cons and comic and game stores to recruit members and hold community events throughout the year; in 2021, the guild had its highest fundraising year ever, raising over $131,000 despite the COVID-19 pandemic curtailing recruitment and in-person events.
